Event 2: Reggio Emilia, Italy
Our introduction to Reggio Emilia
We arrive at Bologna airport and meet Luca who drives us to Reggio Emilia, a city in northern Italy famous for the Reggio Emilia Approach, an innovative and inspiring approach to early childhood education . . .
Luca is instantly friendly and welcoming. He observes:
“Italy is a country of contradictions: modern, cosmopolitan, cultured, forward thinking but you will see there are still plenty of homeless people on the streets and now many of them are refugees. Like elsewhere in Europe, the arrival of migrants has led to extremism and political views are hardening.”
The unexpected benefit of our hotel’s location is that it is situated in the old Jewish quarter of the town and within walking distance of the offices of our partners ISTORECO. Giulia, Nando and Dzvina welcome us at the hotel and present us with a series of beautifully produced books full of stories and images related to the events of the Second World War and resistance in the town.
